The Cake Hole Tearoom Edwinstowe

We'd heard great things about a local(ish) tearoom called The Cake Hole. After looking at their Facebook page my sister decided to make a booking and enquire about special dietary needs. The friendly owner Lynne was happy to talk through options.

After a chat on the phone we decided on a Victoria Sponge Cake. Im not used to being able to eat cake out at a cafe so I was more than pleased that she was going to make a special cake.

The cafe is in a cute little courtyard just down from Sherwood Forest visitors centre. There's also some nice little craft shops in the area to browse around too.

The tearoom had a lovely cosy feel to it with miss matched crockery and shabby chic decor. There was a nice warm welcome from Lynne & Bob too.

We were served a big pot of tea straight away. I shared a peppermint tea with my friend.

The other girls had the usual afternoon tea which looked amazing. They had a great selection of handmade sandwiches, scones, cupcakes and cake slices. I was served a huge slice of Dairy, Egg and Gluten free Victoria Sponge. It was delicious. Lovely light and moist with a great flavour and lovely jam and buttercream.

I was nicely full after the cake and numerous cups of peppermint tea. I also had a slice of cake to take away for later as it was that good.

I'd highly recommend The Cake Hole to everyone. It's only a small place (although there is outside seating for the warmer months) so I'd recommend booking if there's a few of you. I'd also call before hand too if you have special dietary needs so Lynne can advise you of options. She had gluten free bread available for other menu options too. They are very accommodating.

Big thumbs up to The Cake Hole! Check them out on Facebook.

Rub Smokehouse Nottingham

I love me some ribs and I love them at Rub Smokehouse in Nottingham.

They have a great menu filled with lots of delicious choices. All the gluten free items are marked with a GF next to them on the menu. Each time I've eaten there I have checked with the server about the Dairy Free options too and they have been very helpful in checking with the kitchen.

I chose the half rack of baby back ribs served with fries and corn on the cob (omitting the butter). The ribs were really tender with a lovely smoked taste. The fries are really good too. I left with a happy & full tummy.

They also have a great cocktail menu. I love a quirky cocktail so I tried the Papa Don't Peach which was Vodka, Vanilla & Peach Syrup and Early Grey Tea. Really nice (and great looking).

If you are in the area I'd highly recommend Rub. It gets very busy though so better to book in advance.

Rewind Orlando 2013 Part 2

Here is part two of my "Rewind" post from my visit to Orlando, Florida in 2013.
Some photos may show non "free from" food which was eaten by my husband. All posts have been copied directly from my Tumblr blog. Part one can be found here.

On our way back from Universal we decided to try Buffalo Wild Wings. I had naked tenders with fries and a side of six honey BBQ wings. Husband had a combo of wings and boneless wings with hot BBQ sauce and fries. All very tasty :)

Late lunch at Moes Southwest Grill. Husband had a huge “home wrecker” burrito. I had a burrito bowl filled with rice, chicken, pinto beans, pico de gallo, guacamole, lettuce and Cucumber. Was very tasty :)

Today we went to the shopping malls so we had a food court lunch.
I went to Five Guys Burgers and had a bunless handmade hamburger with tomato and lettuce and very nice fries.

I’m loving the minute maid juices, watermelon is my fave but I found a cherry vanilla today in Walmart. $1 each for 2ltrs. Also found a soy based iced latte which I’m looking forward to trying :)

Tonight’s tipple. How cool!!

Our tea/supper Ribs & Amys Mac n Cheese :) soooo yummy :)

Pancakes & syrup for breakfast :) yum!

We randomly spotted the Dippin Dot shop on the 192 on our way home. We had to oblige :)
I had Liberty Ice :) love em!

Tonight we had the best steak we have ever eaten. A 20oz Wood Fire grilled Porterhouse. We’d seen Adam Richman mention it was his favourite steak a few nights ago on Man Vs Food. It happened to be on the menu at Outback Steakhouse. Winner!! Half the steak is a New York Strip and the other smaller half is a Fillet Mignon. OMG! It was melt in your mouth tender. Esp the fillet side. I had mine with sweet potato fries drizzled in honey (yum) and lee had a sweet jacket potato with honey, brown sugar and cinnamon butter. He informed me it was amazing. The meal was soooo good :)

I was really impressed with how Discovery Cove dealt with food allergies. They had a sign out at breakfast saying “GF snacks available on request”. I asked the server and was give a snack box which contained a packed of fruit crisps, cookies and a brownie. I also grabbed a banana and apple juice.

For lunch the chef told me all the options that were available. I decided to go for a pulled pork roll which was made with a “freefrom” bread. Was really nice. She gave me some fries and two more snack boxes. The snack boxes are free from all 8 top allergens. I thought they were a really good idea :) top marks to DC.

Lunch today was at a Dine in Theatre. Husband had a Chicken cheese Chipotle Pizzetti with fries. I had some fresh cooked potato chips and a Sour Apple Martini :)

More posts to come in part 3...

Rewind Orlando 2013 Part 1

Welcome to my 2nd "Rewind" post. After a few days in NYC (see previous post HERE) we flew down to Orlando, Florida to continue our holiday and continued enjoying American food & drink.

We stay in a villa so we like to visit local supermarkets to stock up on items we can cook ourselves in between eating out. Again some of the photos will show non "freefrom" foods that my husband ate.
All posts have been copied directly from my Tumblr blog.

Freefrom haul from the local publix store :)

First morning breakfast :) maple sausage, maple smoked bacon with Blueberry waffles & Syrup :)

Got to love American snacks :)

I’ve decided I want to live in this whole foods store. It was epic. I thought the store in NY was big but this was a full blown stand alone supermarket of exciting stuff :) it had so many different sections and countless amounts of “freefrom” foods. Heaven!!

Today’s “freefrom” haul. I brought, 2 types of Kombucha (lavender & hibiscus) purely cos I’d seen people mention it on YouTube and I wanted to try it. A bottle of pomegranate & mint Chia drink, Amy’s GF lasagne made with daiya, mint choc chip cookie sandwiches, another type of daiya cheese, sugar cookies, chocolate & creme sandwich cookies, Vans cinnamon French Toast, chicken nuggets, two bars of choc and a tub of Eat Pastry Cookie Dough. Yes our stomachs will be expanding over the coming weeks ;) I can’t wait to try everything :)

This sushi was finished before we got back to the villa :) good stuff :)

Had the Lasagne for my lunch. Really nice. I’m loving the Daiya cheese. It really does have the texture of mozzarella :) I’m already planning how to get a stash of the cheeses home :)

Due to having a late lunch we didn’t feel overly hungry for a big evening meal so we popped to Chick-Fil-A. Husband had a spicy chicken burger with waffle fries and I had a kids Grilled Chicken Nugget meal. Was really nice, and now were back to feeling really full again.

Today’s breakfast. Vans Cinnamon French toast (really nice) and Watermelon.

Yep they really are blue and very yummy :)

Snow cones at Downtown Disney. Grape and Lime.

While at Downtown Disney I of course had to visit Babycakes :) they had lots of cupcakes for sale but as I was talking to some of my friends on Twitter yesterday about “freefrom” donuts I thought I’d get a selection of Donuts :) mmm they are sooo good :) wish I could send you all one :)

For out tea we decided to try Joes Crab Shack. We were glad we did. We had a steam pot of snow crab, dungeness crab, shrimps, sausage, corn and potatoes. We were given all the cracking tools and a bib and dug in. It was all so tasty (and fun). I washed it down with a Shark Bite cocktail and a Cherry Limeade.

My sister had found an ice cream based snack called Dippin Dots, so we were on a mission to find them. Husband had Cookie Dough, they were that good that he went back for seconds. I had a dairyfree option of Rainbow Dots which were fruity. They were really good :)

Part 2 of the blog to follow....
